New Delhi: Nearly eight months after a Supreme Court lawyer was stalked and threatened with a gun by four men in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, the Delhi Police have registered a case against the accused. The FIR also names a Delhi Police station house officer and sub-inspector for alleged inaction in the case.
According to the complainant, a practicing lawyer with the Supreme Court and the American Bar Association, she was going to meet someone in July last year when she noticed that someone was following her car.
As per the FIR, “On the same day, when the complainant was returning from…Vasant Kunj at about 10.10 pm, to Dwarka… one Maruti A-star came from the back…and stopped on the right side of the complainant at the red light. There were…four people sitting in the car. All were drunk and (a man) who was sitting on the left side of the driver all of sudden (pointed) a gun towards the complainant with criminal intention to causing wrongful restraint to commit robbery… They came to commit the robbery and terrorism…by showing the gun.”
The lawyer told the police that she called 100 and also took pictures. The next day, the complainant alleged that a sub-inspector took her complaint and called the accused for a “compromise” and later lodged a complaint under non-cognisable offences.
“The SI had not (conducted) their blood alcohol test…All four people had confessed…that they were drinking and driving…and they came to the complainant with criminal intimidation…but the SI did not entertain the complainant; besides they (came to a) compromise with the family of these four persons… After meeting with the SHO no action was taken against these four persons,” reads the FIR.
The complainant alleged that the SHO also did not add appropriate sections to the FIR. She then approached Patiala House Court. Subsequently, the court ordered the police to lodge a complaint in the matter and take appropriate action. The accused have now been booked under sections of 341 (wrongful restraint) and 352 (assault or criminal force). The police said an inquiry is being conducted and the SHO and sub-inspector are being questioned.
