New Delhi: The Central government on Friday cleared the appointment of new Chief Justices to Allahabad, Chhattisgarh and Patna High Courts.
The new Chief Justices are:
– Justice Pritinker Diwaker for Allahabad High Court;
– Justice Ramesh Sinha for Chhattisgarh High Court;
– Justice Vinod Chandran for Patna High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended appointment of Justice Diwaker as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on February 9.
Born in 1961, Justice Diwaker’s parent High Court is the Chhattisgarh High Court. He graduated in law from Durgawati University in Jabalpur and enrolled as an advocate in 1984.
He was designated Senior Advocate in January 2005, and elevated as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court on March 31, 2009. He has been a judge of the Allahabad High Court since October 3, 2018.
Justice Sinha was recommended by the Collegium for appointment as Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court on February 9.
His parent High Court is Allahabad.
Justice Chandran had initially been recommended by the Collegium in December 2022 to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
However, the Collegium on February 7 recalled that recommendation and instead recommended that he be made Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
Justice Chandran is the senior-most Judge of the Kerala High Court. He was sworn in as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court on November 8, 2011, and made a permanent judge on June 24, 2013 and is due to retire on April 24, 2025.
