Mumbai: Co-founder of Singapore-based fashion tech firm Zilingo Ankiti Bose has filed a defamation suit against Pinstorm founder and Indian marketer Mahesh Murthy seeking ₹820 crore in damages for his allegedly slanderous remarks against her in an article he wrote.
Bose was suspended as CEO of Zilingo in March 2022 amidst investigations into the company’s financial irregularities. Following her suspension, Bose claimed that attempts were being made to remove her from the company, which itself entered into liquidation this January.
It was around this time that Murthy authored From Vulture Capital to Victim Capital: Mahesh Murthy’s Take on VCs in India, an article which was published in Outlook Business Magazine.
The comments made in the article compelled Bose to approach the Bombay High Court with a defamation suit on April 20.
Bose has accused Murthy of making defamatory and incorrect statements against her in his article. She also claimed that the article had also been shared by Murthy on his LinkedIn profile and Twitter account, as part of a vendetta against her.
Bose alleged that both Outlook and Murthy had caused damage to her name, reputation and standing in the eyes of public. Thus, she has claimed damages of ₹820 crore.
The suit also prays for a permanent injunction restraining Murthy from publishing or writing anything defamatory against Bose. Also sought is an order to delete and remove any article, tweet or writing posted against her on any online platform.
The suit has been filed through Singhania & Co LLP.
