Gujrat: A court in Gujarat’s Una Sunday sent right-wing activist Kajal Hindustani to 14-days judicial custody for her ‘hate speech’ at a recent Ram Navami event after which the city witnessed clashes between two communities.
A social activist known for her fiery speeches against other communities – Hindustani was arrested on Sunday after she surrendered before the Police. She was produced before a court in Una. The police did not seek her custody and, therefore, the court remanded her to 14 days judicial custody.
Hindustani is a regular face at the events organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
On April 1, she participated in a function organised by the VHP for celebrating Ram Navami. She gave a speech targeting a particular community and was booked for hurt the sentiments of the religious community and for promoting enmity between two religious groups.
Soon after her speech, there were clashes between two communal groups in Una. The city even witnessed stone pelting.
She was booked under Sections 295A (acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), 153A (promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, language) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
